Lilmod is Hebrew for "to learn".

Why  Lilmod? The reason for Lilmod is simple.  Learning is a natural function in Jewish circles. You must continue to learn, you must continue to grow, and it is most fruitful when done within community.  This program fulfills not only the need to learn about the basics of Judaism, but provides a forum for dialogue regarding Jewish subjects such as history, tradition, Messiah, halakha and Torah -just to name a few. Soak up the wisdom of our Sages, the wisdom of our contemporaries, and enrich your life.

January 3 & 10: Scriptural and Rabbinic Authority versus Compassionate Halakhah
Examine how halakhah was formed, the case for rabbinic authority, various shulchan aruchs, and conditions and cases around compassionate observance of halakhah.

January 17: Sunrise, Sunset - Lifecycles in Judaism. 
Explore treatment of lifecycles such as marriage, circumcision, death and burial.

January 24: The Sabbath
A discussion on Avraham Heschel's book and modern Shabbat observance.

January 31: Torah Class

February 7: Sermon on the Mount
Explore Mashiach Yeshua's radical ethic using various sources from luminaries such as Rabbi Pinchas Lapide and more.

February 14: Torah Class

February 21: Kashrut
Engage in learning what kashrut is, how it works in the home from store to kitchen to mouth.

February 28: The Siddur-Blessings for All Time, Part 1
This class will focus on an overview of Jewish Prayer and the Morning Blessings.

March 6: Understanding Purim

March 13: The Siddur-Blessings for All Time, Part 2
This class will cover the Pesukei D'zimra and Blessings of the Shema.

March 20: Understanding Passover

March 27: The Siddur-Blessings for All Time, Part 3
This class will cover the Amidah, Handwashing blessing, Blessings before food, and Birkat Hamazon (Grace After Meals).

April 17: Midrash: Fact or Fable?
Discuss the importance of Midrash and its use in understanding Torah and tradition.

April 24: Teach Yourself to Read Hebrew by EKS, part 1
This 3-week intensive course will get you learning the Hebrew characters and reading Hebrew.  Great for beginners. Plan to be present for ALL 3 weeks. For people who already know Hebrew, please consider coming and being a chevrutah to a new student.

Join us for this PBS presentation and discussion.

June 12: Opening the Talmud: An Overview and Selected Studies, Part 1
This first class will outline the organization of the Talmud, it's role in Judaism as the Oral Torah, history behind the Talmud, and a short introductory study on a selected topic to be announced by the Rabbi.

June 26: Opening the Talmud: An Overview and Selected Studies, Part 2
This session will be a full study on a selected topic. Expect lively discussion regarding the halakhic  implications of the tractate studied. The selected topic is to be announced by the Rabbi.
